What is Course Hero?
Course Hero is an online learning platform specifically designed for college and university students. Its goal is to help students succeed. It provides a repository of educational resources for specific courses, including practical exercises, study guides, lecture notes, assignment questions, and videos. These resources can assist you with your coursework if you get stuck or simply need a little help understanding a topic.
But Course Hero isn’t just beneficial for students. Even if you’re a teacher, you can use Course Hero to find educational resources or discover innovative teaching methods. You can even utilize the platform to engage with other educators teaching similar courses and seek assistance in solving any challenges you may encounter.
Course Hero Functions
In 2012, it was stated that Course Hero provided access to over 7 million downloaded training documents. Students pay a monthly subscription to get immediate access to Course Hero’s Premier Access program, or they can upload 40 documents to get free access for a month. When a user has uploaded 40 documents, they can upload up to 300 documents from Course Hero. However, once the documents are submitted, it takes about three days to get Premier Access. The user can search for documents by content, university, or course subject. In September 2010, a charitable initiative called Course Hero Knowledge Drive was introduced, where one book was donated to Books for Africa for every 10 educational documents uploaded to the site. Since its inception, the Course Hero Knowledge Drive program has donated over 200,000 books to students and schools overseas.
Course Hero offers 24/7 access to online tutors. They can ask any question about a subject and the tutor will respond within 3 days. This access is paid per use through “credits” for Premier Users, but basic subscribers have to pay per question.
On April 17, 2012, Course Hero launched 22 free online courses in three “learning paths”: entrepreneurship, business, and web programming. These courses utilize aggregated educational content from the web and consistently test students until they master their subject. Each course is broken down into approximately 6 sections that teach videos and articles. On August 7, 2012, Course Hero added 18 more free skill-based courses to its catalog. Course Hero also rewards students who complete 5 or more of the three suggested learning pathways. Prizes include the opportunity to submit an SV Angel business plan and $5,000 or a chance to get a job at Course Hero.
